Ms. JD Fellowship
Article title
Third-year student Jessica Biondo recently became Wayne Law’s first Ms. JD Fellowship recipient and only the second student from Michigan to earn the honor.

Created 10 years ago, the Ms. JD Fellowship is a project in partnership with the American Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession to promote mentoring and professional development for future female attorneys. This career guidance assists young women leaders in becoming more active in the legal community.

Biondo’s interests are in health care and bioethics; after graduation, she plans to pursue a career either representing health care providers at a firm or serving as in-house counsel for a health care system.

Biondo has two goals she hopes to accomplish through the Ms. JD program.

“First, I am interested in developing mentors who share similar interests or are also interested in niche or technological areas of law,” she said. “Second, I aim to put myself in the best position possible to develop skills and knowledge that will allow me to help other women, including those with STEM backgrounds. I feel compelled to take everything that I have been given and repay that by helping others. A chance to join a nationwide network of incredible women in law is a step toward paying it forward.”

Fellows were selected based on their academic performance, leadership and dedication to advancing the status of women in the profession. The 12 winners reflect a full range of diverse interests and backgrounds, with women pursuing opportunities in public interest, academia and the private sector in every region of the country. More than half of the recipients come from groups that have traditionally been underrepresented in the legal profession.
