Theodore J. Garrish
Theodore J. Garrish ’68, was elected vice chair of the International Energy Agency based in Paris. Garrish currently serves in a Senate-confirmed position, assistant secretary of energy for the U.S. Department of Energy.
1970s
L. Graham Ward ’72
L. Graham Ward

L. Graham Ward ’72, was selected for Western Michigan University Cooley Law School’s Frederick J. Griffith III Adjunct Faculty Award. The award recognizes dedication to the law school, excellence in teaching, passion for persuasive advocacy, compassion for law students, and optimism about life and the future of legal education. Ward is the director of the Center for the Study and Resolution of Conflict and an adjunct professor at Cooley Law School.

Brian L. Mackie ’75, was appointed by the governor to Michigan’s Crime Victim Services Commission as chairperson. Mackie is the prosecuting attorney for Washtenaw County.

G. Gregory Schivley ’76, was named to Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s “Leaders in the Law” Class of 2020. Schivley is principal at Harness Dickey and earned his bachelor’s from Ohio University.

1980s

Timothy P. Connors ’80, spoke on the peacemaking process as practiced by Native Americans at a seminar on mediation in Dublin. Connors is a judge in the Washtenaw County Trial Court and earned his bachelor’s from the University of Michigan.

Kevin S. Macaddino ’80, was elected as a partner at Varnum LLP. He focuses his practice on real estate land acquisition, development, financing and leasing. He earned his bachelor’s from Michigan State University.

Douglas A. Dozeman ’83, was re-elected to serve his third two-year term as managing partner of Warner Norcross + Judd LLP. He will chair the firm’s Management Committee. Dozeman earned his bachelor’s from Calvin College.

Karen Goodman Mucha ’83, joined Plunkett Cooney as of counsel, where her practice will focus primarily in the area of health care law. Mucha earned her bachelor’s from the University of Pennsylvania and M.H.S.A. from Harvard University.

Patricia Nemeth ’84, was named a recipient of the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel (MDTC) Excellence in Defense Award for 2020. MDTC is an association of the leading lawyers in Michigan dedicated to representing individuals and corporations in civil litigation. Nemeth is founder of Nemeth Law PC and earned her bachelor’s from the University of Michigan.

Michael Stevenson

Michael Stevenson ’84, joined Labaton Sucharow LLP as partner in its Whistleblower Representation Practice. He earned his bachelor’s from Michigan State University.

Matthew Abel ’85, was named chair of the Marijuana Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and was elected to the Board of Directors for the International Cannabis Bar Association. Abel is the founder of Cannabis Counsel, a Michigan law firm entirely devoted to cannabis clients and cases, providing both business advice and legal counseling as well as criminal defense of marijuana cases throughout Michigan.

Heather J.E. Simmons ’85, started a new position as associate director for instruction and access services at the University of Georgia’s Alexander Campbell King Law Library. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s from the University of Michigan.

Kenneth R. Chadwell ’86, was named to Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s “Leaders in the Law” Class of 2020. Chadwell is partner at Mantese Honigman PC.

Anne M. Yantus ’86, joined Bodman PLC as pro bono counsel. In this role, Yantus will coordinate all aspects of Bodman’s pro bono program in conjunction with the firm’s Pro Bono Committee. Yantus earned her bachelor’s from Wayne State University.

Dan Gilbert ’87, was honored by Crain’s Detroit Business at its annual Newsmaker of the Year luncheon with the first Newsmaker Hall of Fame Award.

Theresa M. Asoklis ’89, was named to Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s “Leaders in the Law” Class of 2020. Asoklis is CEO and co-managing shareholder of Collins Einhorn Farrell PC. She earned her bachelor’s from Wayne State University.

Linda Paullin-Hebden ’89, was named to Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s “Leaders in the Law” Class of 2020. Paullin-Hebden is an executive partner at Warner Norcross + Judd LLP and earned her bachelor’s from Alma College.

Michael J. Steinberg ’89, was named to Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s “Leaders in the Law” Class of 2020. Steinberg is a professor from practice at the University of Michigan Law School and earned his bachelor’s from Wesleyan University.

Jennifer L. Lord ’92, was a participant at a litigators artificial intelligence workshop sponsored by the Amsterdam-based Digital Freedom Fund and the AI Now Institute at the NYU School of Law. The event, held in Berlin, included digital rights attorneys from the United States, Europe and Latin America. Lord is partner with Pitt McGehee Palmer & Rivers PC and earned her bachelor’s from the University of Michigan.

Portia L. Roberson ’93, was appointed by the governor to the Michigan Civil Rights Commission. Roberson is the CEO of Focus: HOPE. She earned her bachelor’s from the University of Michigan.

Michael W. Stephenson ’93, was honored with the Leo A. Farhat Outstanding Attorney Award from the Ingham County Bar Association (ICBA). This recognition is given to a member of ICBA who has “distinguished himself or herself by manifesting exemplary character, integrity, judgment and legal scholarship while adhering to and advancing the highest principles and traditions of the legal profession.” Stephenson is a partner at Willingham & Coté PC and earned his bachelor’s from Michigan State University.

Andrew W. MacLeod ’94, LL.M. ’99, was named president of the Association for Corporate Growth’s Detroit chapter. MacLeod is a member of Dickinson Wright’s Detroit office. He earned his bachelor’s from the University of Michigan.

Chanille Carswell ’95, was named to Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s “Leaders in the Law” Class of 2020. Carswell is a shareholder at Brooks Kushman PC and earned her bachelor’s from Michigan State University.

Kerry Lynn Rhoads ’96, was appointed to the State Bar of Michigan Professional Ethics Committee. Rhoads is a shareholder in the Michigan office of Segal McCambridge Singer & Mahoney. She earned her bachelor’s from Michigan State University.

Jodi M. Schebel ’96, was named to Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s “Leaders in the Law” Class of 2020. Schebel is a co-managing partner at Bowman and Brooke LLP and earned her bachelor’s from Wayne State University.

Jennifer L. Sabourin ’99, was appointed as the program vice chair for the American Employment Law Council, followed by a two-year term as program chair. Sabourin is principal and employment and labor deputy group leader in the Detroit office of Miller Canfield. She earned her bachelor’s from the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Michelle P. Crockett ’00, was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors for the Detroit Regional LGBT Chamber of Commerce and elected to serve as chair of the Michigan Community Resources Board of Directors. She was also named to Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s “Leaders in the Law” Class of 2020 and honored with the Trailblazer Award by the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association. Crockett is the hiring chair and diversity and professional development principal for Miller Canfield.

Rita White ’01, received the Frederick Douglass Racial Justice and Harmony Award from the Vanzetti M. Hamilton Bar Association at the 2019 Bias Awareness Strolling Reception. White is treasurer of the association and owns and manages the Law Office of Rita O. White PLLC. She earned her bachelor’s from the University of Michigan.

Danielle Russo Bennetts ’03, was appointed to lead the Attorney General’s Cold Case Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Unit. She earned her bachelor’s from Wayne State University.

Jacquelyn A. McClinton ’04, was appointed by the governor to the 36th District Court in Detroit. McClinton previously served as an administrative law judge with the state of Michigan. She earned her master’s in dispute resolution from Wayne State University.

James M. Reid ’05, joined the S.H.A.R.E. Network as a founding member. S.H.A.R.E. (Safety, Health, and Risk Education Resources) is a collaboration of consultants, legal advisors, speakers, publishers and innovators. Reid is a partner in the Detroit office of Dinsmore & Shohl LLP and earned his bachelor’s from Michigan State University.

Alyia Marie Hakim ’06, was appointed by the governor to the Macomb County 39th District Court of the cities of Roseville and Fraser. Hakim was a partner with Hakim & Hakim PLLC, and of counsel for Aloia & Associates PC.

Christine L. Phillips ’06, was named a member of Bodman PLC. Phillips practices in Bodman’s Detroit office and is a member of the Banking Practice Group. She earned her bachelor’s from Michigan State University.

Betina Schlossberg ’07, earned an LL.M. in international law, with a concentration in art and cultural heritage, from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago. Schlossberg is the treasurer of the State Bar of Michigan International Law Section, and vice chair of the American Bar Association International Law Section’s Immigration and Naturalization and Art and Cultural Heritage committees. She runs an immigration and international law practice in Ann Arbor.

Marilena B. David-Martin ’09, was appointed by the governor to the Michigan Community Corrections Board. David-Martin is the training director and deputy director of the State Appellate Defender Office and a part-time faculty member at Wayne Law.
